Program Details

Designed and delivered by the local human resources community in consultation with the Human Resources Institute of Alberta (HRIA), the MacEwan Human Resources Management program focuses on a range of  key knowledge areas that are required of this professional role, including:

  • Organizational behaviour
  • Employee law
  • Recruiting and selection practices
  • Total compensation strategies
  • Change management
  • Adult learning and training delivery
  • Workplace healthy and safety
  • Negotiation and conflict management
Courses in this program provide the basic knowledge you will need to work towards a CHRP (Certified Human Resources Professional) designation, a nationally-recognized standard of professional practice.

Most of our instructors continue to work in the human resources field, and teach at MacEwan because they are passionate about their work, and about contributing towards the development of new HR practitioners.  As a result, our courses feature projects and assignments that are directly related to the challenges and experiences of actual human resources professionals.

* Important note: As of January 1, 2011, CHRP Candidates - those who have passed the National Knowledge Exam® (NKE) - will require a minimum of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in order to register for the National Professional Practice Assessment® (NPPA) and qualify for the CHRP designation. You can use the HRM diploma from MacEwan to prepare for the NKE, and transfer your course credits to other accredited bachelor's degrees, including the MacEwan Bachelor of Commerce degree.
